Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know

Do I need to file tax if my employer already deducts PAYE?
Yes — even if your employer remits PAYE on your behalf, you are still legally required to file a personal annual tax return with your State Internal Revenue Service by March 31 every year. The 2026 NRS Act made this strictly enforceable with a ₦25,000 first-month penalty. Kọmply handles this entire process for you.
What is the penalty for late PAYE remittance?
Under the 2026 NRS Act, businesses that fail to remit PAYE by the 10th of each month face a ₦100,000 fine in the first month, then ₦50,000 for every subsequent month of default. Kọmply tracks your PAYE deadline and reminds you automatically before it is due.
How does Kọmply calculate PAYE?
Kọmply uses the official 2026 Nigerian PAYE tax bands: 7% on the first ₦300,000, 11% on the next ₦300,000, 15% on the next ₦500,000, 19% on the next ₦500,000, 21% on the next ₦1,600,000 and 24% above ₦3,200,000. We apply the Consolidated Relief Allowance of ₦200,000 plus 20% of gross income before calculating.
What is the correct pension split in Nigeria?
Under the Pension Reform Act, the employee contributes a minimum of 8% of monthly emoluments and the employer contributes a minimum of 10% — totalling at least 18%. Kọmply calculates both contributions automatically every month.
I am a freelancer — do I need to pay tax in Nigeria?
Yes. All income earned in Nigeria — including freelance, consulting, rental and investment income — is taxable. Freelancers must register with their State Internal Revenue Service and file annual returns by March 31. Kọmply's Personal plan is built specifically for freelancers.
Is my data safe with Kọmply?
Absolutely. Kọmply uses 256-bit SSL encryption for all data in transit and at rest. We never sell or share your personal or business financial data with third parties. Your compliance data belongs to you.
